PPA Covered provides excellent modern foreign languages classes to Primary Schools across Yorkshire and the North of England. These courses meet the PPA cover requirements for foreign language as part of the National Curriculum.
Our staff specializes in preparing and delivering effective modern foreign languages to primary schools throughout the UK. Teachers provide Spanish or French lessons in-line with the National Curriculum. As with any lesson through PPA, we provide differentiation for students who learn differently.
Even though Key Stage One doesn’t require modern foreign languages, many schools seek out these shorter lessons to better prepare students for the compulsory Key Stage Two. In each language, there will be specially trained staff members’ providing the students’ support, and thoughtful lesson plans to engage them. Our teachers are fluent in their language and have the ability to create genuine and fun MFL sessions.
The children’s progress is carefully tracked throughout the year to see growth and development, while also including individual reports. Cross-curricular links are also created so that students can combine multiple subjects in their learning. They will read poems and stories that connect with their English courses and learn about the culture of other countries as well. Students will excel in their new language while also connecting it to other topics.
With PPA Covered’s involvement in international schools, we have the ability to partner up for different learning experiences. Students can participate in Skype sessions with schools in France or Spain to practice their conversational skills. These video calls are an interactive way for students to learn while taking the pressure off of them in a classroom setting. Students are more likely to learn and feel comfortable through conversations with their peers rather than solely with a teacher.
Pen-pal partnerships are also available for students to partake in throughout the year. Students will be paired with children from another country as a way to support each other through the language learning process. They will be able to practice real-life conversations in another language and improve their writing skills as well. These partnerships also allow foreign relationships to be established, and the potential to take trips abroad and meet with their pen pals.
Students will not only learn a new language but explore a different society as well. Our staff creates opportunities for children to study different holidays and celebrate one a year. During this occasion, students will be invited to decorate the classroom, dress, and even cook food appropriate to the celebration.
PPA Covered’s program includes many opportunities for teamwork and competition. These occasions will promote team building and unity within the students, so they feel supported while learning. The inclusion of games and contests is also a fun way to engage the students in learning without them feeling the pressure of a typical classroom.
PPA Cover transitions our courses during the year so that after the first month, students will learn more than 50% in their target language. This move allows children to have constant interaction with the language and improve their chances of fluency at this young age. These skills will stay with the students, enabling them to access the language later on in life. With our fluent teachers, students will also have an authentic experience with the language including an understanding of proper pronunciations and even different cultures.
